Tips for cleaner separation
- Use the highest-quality file you have. Low-bitrate MP3s leave more artefacts.
- Heavily reverbed vocals separate less cleanly; expect some room sound in the instrumental.
- Choose the two-track option if you only need karaoke; it is quicker and cheaper.

How do I remove vocals from a song online?
Choose a song, select "Vocals + instrumental", and press Separate audio. You get the instrumental without vocals and the isolated vocal as two files.
Which plans include the vocal remover?

Can I upload an MP3?
No. The vocal remover only works on songs you generated in Grok Music within the last 14 days; uploading your own audio is not supported.
What does the stem splitter return?
Separate files for each part it detects: lead and backing vocals, drums, bass, guitar, keyboard, strings, brass, woodwinds, percussion, synth, and effects. Parts that are not in the song are not returned.
Do I need to install anything?
No. Separation, preview, and download all happen in the browser.
Can I publish the separated tracks?
Only if you have the rights to the original recording. Separating a commercial song does not give you permission to release its parts.
Why is some music still audible in the vocal track?
Separation is an estimate of what belongs to each part. Reverb, backing vocals, and instruments in the same range as the voice can bleed through. Cleaner, higher-quality sources give cleaner stems.
Can I remove only the backing vocals?
Use the full stem split. When backing vocals are present, they are returned as their own track, separate from the lead vocal.
How long are my files kept?
Every task stays listed in your Library, but the audio files themselves are hosted by our generation partner for about 14 days. Download the takes you want to keep: MP3 is included with paid plans and credit packs, and WAV export with Pro, Ultra, and the Large or Mega packs.
What audio am I allowed to use?
Only audio you created, own, or have permission to transform. When you upload a file you confirm that you hold those rights. AI processing does not clear third-party rights, and Grok Music commercial terms only cover what you are entitled to use. Rights holders can contact [email protected] with evidence of a dispute.
